Q1: How do I determine the Blank Bag Correction factor?

The Blank Bag Correction allows for a weight adjustment based on actions that take place during solublization. The resulting factor adjusts your sample bag weight in an up or downward direction. To determine the Blank Bag Correction, you simply include at least one empty, sealed and weighed filter bag with your run. After the samples and blank bag have been through the solublization process and dried as required, you simply divide the end weight of the blank by the start weight. This will result in a factor usually in the 0.992–0.998 range. The Blank Bag Correction can also be used to calibrate your values to a known value.

Q2: Can I ash the F57 filter bag?

Yes, ANKOM F57 Filter Bags are virtually ash-free and can be ashed using conventional means. When the F57 Filter Bag kindles it will produce a small puff of smoke. Depending on your oven size this does not cause a problem. This is common when ashing samples even without filter bags. Ovens with vent hoods are very helpful. Another option is pre-ignition. Click here for a summary of the ashing procedure.

Q3: How many Fiber Analyzers does ANKOM have in place?

Although we do not release specific details about market share, we can share with you that we have products in over 80 countries around the world. Our key products, the ANKOM200 and ANKOM220 Fiber Analyzers have been around since 1993. Our experience indicates that once a product is placed, it doesn't take long for sales to increase in the given locality. Our customers are our best salespeople.

Q4: How many Fat Analyzers does ANKOM have in place?

The ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer began shipping late in 2000. Since that time systems have been placed around the world. Users in the feed, food, meat, university, research and commercial laboratory industries in the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Brazil, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Italy and more are using the system to greatly increase extraction volumes.

Q5: Does ANKOM produce mobile digestion bags or custom filter media for unique research needs?

ANKOM Technology has been the source for many different products used for in situ type studies. 3 cm x 5 cm mobile digestion bags are somewhat common, however, ANKOM can and will produce bags and other filtration media per your specifications. Different sizes, porosity and shapes can be considered on a custom basis. Just contact us with your needs. Most custom products can be quoted within two days of receipt of your specifications.

Q6: What is the porosity of the ANKOM F57 Filter Bag?

The porosity of the ANKOM F57 filter bag is best stated as follows: 95% of the open area has pores <30 microns in size. The design of the filter bag provides a 3-D filter matrix similar to the filtering effect of a glass crucible. The F57 Filter Bag provides equal filtration without most of the manual intervention required with a crucible method.

Q7: What is the porosity of ANKOM Technology's In Situ bags?

Following the industry standard, ANKOM in situ bags have a porosity of 50 microns ± 15. We can custom make in situ bags for a variety of pores size. Please contact us for custom quotes.

Q8: What is Filter Bag Technology?

Precise, Accurate and Useful

That's the kind of data the professional laboratory wants. How that data is obtained is changing. In the past, the technician relied on an assortment of heating units, glass crucibles, expensive glassware, vacuum tubes, cumbersome procedures, and more to determine the various nutritional components of feedstuffs.

Enter Filter Bag Technology

Imagine determining 24 fiber assays with accuracy and precision, in less space that in takes to place a microwave oven. Imagine performing more than 200 fat extractions in a single day. Imagine reducing your manual labor time by more than 50%. Imagine reducing your solvent costs by over 50%. Imagination becomes reality with the introduction of the Filter Bag Technology. Batch processing and method control provides a fast and easy way to analyze samples for ADF, NDF, lignin, and crude fiber and determine crude fat. This innovative technique utilizes individual filter bags to isolate, solublize and filter multiple samples. You'll save time and precious lab space, without compromising your precision and accuracy.

How Does It Work?

The concept is not new. Most people have dipped a tea bag in hot water to extract cell contents while recovering the bulk of the tea leaves. Boiler bags allow for foods to be secured while cooking. That concept was successfully applied to fiber analysis and in vitro digestibility (1993) and now ANKOM has satisfied users in over 80 countries around the world. In 1999 we developed a system and filter bag matrix that could support crude fat extraction.

For fiber analysis the challenge we faced was to develop a material and procedure that would secure the sample, yet allow it to bathe in the necessary solution. It had to be chemically inert, withstanding harsh chemicals such as 72% H2SO4 and be easy to handle and use. In the crude fat arena, we had to develop a product that could handle volatile solvents, precisely control the process dynamics and allow for the rapid removal of fat/oil. ANKOM's proprietary technology provided the solution. Each filter bag is designed to support the various procedures, sample types and solvent requirements. Your final results are ACCURATE, PRECISE AND USEFUL!

What It Means For You!

Better precision! When you use the ANKOM200/220 Fiber Analyzer, DaisyII Incubator, or ANKOMXT20 Fat Analyzer you remove many of the variables that cause a loss of precision. Sample transfer is virtually eliminated. Process dynamics are electronically controlled. There's no more reliance on operator experience, relative to setting vacuum levels, forming the proper filter matte or monitoring the process. With the ANKOM systems, precise and accurate results are just a procedure and button push away.

Reduced Costs! Not only is the ANKOM system priced lower than alternatives, but, because the technician is freed from constant monitoring, efficiency is increased. That means you get more for your money from start to finish!

Safety! Our fiber systems eliminate the handling of HOT chemicals. Our fat analyzer maintains a nitrogen environment and operates as a closed system with numerous safety controls that eliminate safety concerns common to current extraction systems in the marketplace. Safety is increased.
