色彩的定義

色彩是一種物理性質, 是一個物質呈現在肉眼的各種外觀. 和物體表面反射的光線有密切關係.  色彩是光振動的一個函數, 光線影響色彩感覺的典型因素包括有反射, 折射, 繞射, 極化, 以及干擾等.

色彩包含有三種基本特性: 色素 (hue), 色量 (value) 和色度 (chroma).  在實質上色彩分別是從色素得來, 色量是衡量照亮物質的鮮量度, 色度表示其飽和度或光純度.

 
色彩的度量方式
表面光反射式分光光譜儀
利用表面光反射光譜, (觀測角度 CIE 1931 2°CIE 1964 10°) 作為色彩度量標準.  這種方式通常被應用於度量固體獲粉粒體之表面色彩或色差. 色彩表示方法以 CIE L*a*b* space CIE xyz space 度量方式.
光穿透式分光光譜儀
凡是可透視或半透明物質之液體固體或膠體皆可運用光穿透式度量色彩.  一般用於度量色彩的光譜波長大都介於 400 ~ 700 nm. 之內.
